Tenterfield

Well here I am sitting in bed in Tenterfield, to let you know what has happened.
We had planned on going up to the sunshine Coast via the coastal highway, but Dan (my tall, dark, handsome son) said that it was school holidays, and had I booked caravan parks! Well, no, we hadn't! And we couldn't get in to any, so we have had to travel via the inland highway, the Newell Highway.
First of all we had a really good crossing over Bass Strait, and by passed Melbourne easily, thanks to a map from neighbour Maria. And we were off on our way.
I have really enjoyed the last few days on this trip. Usually the Newell Highway seems to be borning, but I have enjoyed the wide open spaces, the big sky overhead, seeing the typical Australian countryside, of paddocks, eucalyptus trees, outback type farm buildings. We also saw flooded paddocks due to the recent floods, that looked like lakes, but were farmers paddocks.
Our first night was at Narrenderra, a typical country town, but the streets all had huge oak trees along them, looked so good.
It has been very cold at night. thank goodness for heater, doona and blanket!!
Each of the towns have really good parks to stop for a coffee in. At Tocumwal we stopped alongside the Murray River while we had a cuppa.
Parkes was also a nice town to stop at. They have a large radio telescope there, which is where the movie The Dish was filmed.
Coming in to Coonabarabrum they were great views of the ancient Warrumbungles. But staying at the caravan park there, alongside the highway was very noisy, with trucks passing all night long.
At Glen Innes we visited some StandingStones - it is a Celtic town. There are all the autumn trees all along through here, poplar trees in yellows and oranges etc, plus there are huge rocks that have just been scattered across the landscape by ancient glaciers.
I will have photos to go in next, when I have downloaded them to my computer!!!
Tomorrow we are off again, further north, through Warwick, and then probably stopping just before Brisbane. My other son Jimmy (another tall, dark handsome son) gave me directions to get through Brisbane and on to his and Belinda's place, where we will get to on Saturday. soo looking forward to seeing them and little Amelia Rose.
Must away now and get some sleep, and then it is back in the car tomorrow.
Bye.
